ASCO empowers patients to use their narrative and voices to create public awareness. Public awareness through photography and storytelling is the basic foundation through which ASCO sensitizes the public.

Through patient stories, ASCO promotes a wider understanding on SCD and develop effective SCD coping mechanisms including;

  • Enhanced health-seeking behaviors and actions.
  • improved disease management and treatment
  • meaningful involvement in civic spaces

ASCO has implemented awareness campaigns in 5 counties across Kenya through local patients and patient groups. Nairobi, Siaya, Busia, Kakamega, Kisumu and Taita-Taveta.

We adopt this approach as an important tool for empowering patients and raising public awareness and share knowledge on important issues related to sickle cell disease and their families
